Davao Chong Hua High School

Our Davao Central High School was founded in 1924.  The founders named our school the Davao Chinese High School, it being the only Chinese school in the locality at that time offering the English and Chinese curriculums.

In 1973, the late Ferdinand E. Marcos declared martial law.  Soon after, on April 23, 1073, he issued the Presidential Decree No. 176 ordering the implementation of the Filipinization of all foreign schools causing the change of name to the Davao Central High School.

Decades after, initiatives were taken to change the name back to reflect the original Chinese name of the school.

In 2012 Edison L. Lu was elected Chairperson of the Board of Trustees.  Immediately, on his first term of office, he together with his Board Team set action  plans to implement that dream of giving back to our Davao Central High School its original name.

Coordination with the Securities Exchange Commission, Department of Education, and other local and national entities were conducted.  The process was laborious, tedious, other times even discouraging.

But the sincerity of the Board and perseverance,   overcome all discouragement.  After almost four (4) years of waiting, on September 22, 2015 the BOT Chair Edison L. Lu received the official statement that the change of name is now granted to our school.

Henceforth our Davao Central High School shall be called The Davao Chong Hua High School.

Our deep gratitude and appreciation to our BOT Chair Edison L. Lu and his team: Executive Vice Chair Tita Y. Ko, Vice Chairs Domingo Uy, Jacob Chua, Alfonso Ang, Severino Herrera, Admin Chair Celso Sy who were determined in  the implementation of the change of name.

We also thank our Past Board of Trustees Officers and Members and school directors, our alumni, our administrators, teachers and staff, parents and students who have inspired our leaders to transform that dream into reality.

And to the Almighty for all the blessings.
